Quebec’s Bonhomme Carnaval is attempting to burnish his tarnished image during a visit today with Stephen Harper.

The always jovial mascot of Quebec City’s winter carnival will meet with Harper and Quebec Tory MPs for a photo-op at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting comes weeks after a picture of Bonhomme Carnaval toting a cash-stuffed suitcase was splashed on the cover of Maclean’s magazine.

It accompanied a story calling Quebec Canada’s most corrupt province.

But Bonhomme Carnaval’s visit with Harper could also be about attracting financial help for his hometown.

Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume has been pressing Harper to help fund a project to build a new arena in the provincial capital.
