The Jeep exited the roadway as a result and broke through the ice on the Don River.

No one was seen exiting the vehicle when it entered the water.

Toronto Fire Capt. Deepak Chagger confirmed the 18-year-old driver was still inside when the vehicle crashed into the water.

After hours of searching, a man police say they believe to be the driver was recovered from the icy water.

He was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and died, medics said.
