Fire crews said the fire is on the fourth, fifth and sixth floor of the building.

There were 13 fire apparatus dispatched to the scene.

The fire department is asking people to stay clear of the area.

Rob Hogan, deputy chief for operations and communications with the Saskatoon Fire Department, gave an update on the fire Friday afternoon, saying it was a very serious fire.

He said they were alerted to the fire around 9:33 a.m.

Hogan said the first responding crew described a situation where a machine was on fire on the fourth floor, but the fire got up to the sixth floor through an exhaust pipe from the machine.

He said the cold weather created a lot of restrictions with things freezing up, giving an example of a ladder needing to be heated just to retract it.

“I do not know what is the cause of the fire, there are no injuries to report and I expect we’ll still be on scene for a couple more hours at this time,” Hogan said.
