Regina fire crews investigating gas line explosion at Luiggi’s Pasta House

Regina police and fire crews were at Luiggi’s Pasta House Wednesday afternoon on Albert Street North in Regina, where they just battled an intense blaze.

Regina Fire and Regin Police arrived at the scene shortly after 4 p.m. In a release Thursday, Regina Fire said “on arrival, significant damage to the building was noted with a fire actively buring in the southwest corner.”

“The fire had spread into the attic space, but firefighters were able to bring it under control and contain it quickly.”

Regina Fire has confirmed the blast was a gas line explosion. They say there were three minor injuries and significant damage to the property. A car could be seen in the rubble of the building.

In a Facebook post from Luiggi’s Pasta House, they said “As lots of you have heard, Luiggi’s had a major explosion due to a gas leak in the south side of the building.”

“Thankfully we were not open for dinner service yet and no one was injured, all staff made it out safe. It’s a sad day for us and all our amazing supporters. Thank you for all the well wishes. Talk soon.”

Sask. Energy remains on scene with Regina Fire to investigate the fire further.
