Kelowna Christmas lights display is a go!

KELOWNA — After a few hiccups, the extravagant light display donated by a West Kelowna man to the Capri Rotary Club in Kelowna is coming together.

Jerry Budnick donated the lights last year, but it was later learned that some of the lights didn’t meet public safety standards.

Quotes were as high as $70,000 to bring the lights up to standard.

A further inspection and minor upgrades lowered the price considerably.

Officials say assembly of the display began Monday morning in Kerry Park.

The City of Kelowna gave organizers a $15,000 donation to make the display a reality.

A number of other local businesses also chipped in with electrical work, storage space, etc.

Even the Commissionaires of BC kicked in by providing nightly security checks at no cost.

The display should be fully assembled by Tuesday evening.
