One of two Nova Scotia brothers who burned a cross on the lawn of an interracial couple in February was found guilty on Friday of inciting racial hatred.
Justin Rehberg pleaded guilty last month to a charge of criminal harassment stemming from the Feb. 21 incident in rural Hants County where Michelle Lyon and Shayne Howe discovered the burning cross, with a noose attached, on the lawn of their home.
Judge Claudine Mac-Donald said Rehberg would be sentenced next month.
Two other charges – uttering threats and mischief – were dropped by the Crown during Rehberg’s October court appearance.
In April, Lyon found her car ablaze in what the RCMP called a suspicious fire.
No arrests gave been made in connection to that incident.
Nathan Rehberg, whose trial begins next week, faces charges of public incitement of hatred, mischief and uttering threats.
