7 West Island youth arrested for terrorizing teens in l’Île-Bizard

MONTREAL – Seven West Island teens were arrested on Tuesday by Montreal police on bullying-related charges.

Aged between 16 and 18, the suspects from Pierrefonds-Roxboro and  l’Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève face charges of robbery, armed assault, conspiracy, intimidation and assault causing bodily harm.

Police have confirmed that three of the suspects were already known to police for crimes linked to burglary, violence and drugs.

The two-month investigation was started after police received complaints from l’Île-Bizard residents, who reported that a gang was terrorizing young people in the area.

The suspects allegedly approached other teens in public places in order to steal money, sometimes threatening their victims with a knife or physical abuse.

Two of the seven youths appeared in youth court on Thursday morning, while the remaining five were released on a promise to appear. Their release is subject to strict conditions.

Montreal police are asking West Island parents to be on alert.

Anyone who witnesses questionable behaviour contact is asked to contact police by dialling 9-1-1 or Info-Crime at 514 393-1133.
