TORONTO – A 47-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash in Vancouver, Washington on Wednesday and his wife unwittingly live-tweeted her husband’s death.
Caran Johnson, who often tweets local traffic updates under the handle @ScanCouver, began live-tweeting an accident on Interstate 205 around 1:30 p.m.
As time wore on, Johnson became concerned for her husband who usually drives on the I-205 from work and was late arriving home.
She then began to inquire about the crash directly to local law enforcement.
Johnson tweeted the accident scene for nearly two hours as she grew very concerned about her husband’s whereabouts.
Johnson got through to police but had to wait for someone to return her call. In the meantime, her kids returned home from school.
A short time later, Johnson sent one final, heartbreaking tweet.
Police confirmed Craig R. Johnson, 47, was killed when his car crossed the median and collided with a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Columbian, a local newspaper that first tweeted reports of the accident, expressed their condolences after learning the tragic news.
