Investigators said Langley RCMP were first called at approximately 2:15 p.m. to a home on 8 Avenue between Brown Road and 248 Street in a rural area of the city.

An outbuilding was on fire, which was extinguished by the Township of Langley Fire Department, and while they were examining the scene they found human remains inside, IHIT said in a release.

It is not known how the incident was determined to be a homicide but IHIT has now taken control of the case.

“We are still in the early stages of our investigation. We are working with the Langley RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit and Arson Unit to advance what’s now become a homicide investigation,” Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT said in a release.

“Our investigators will continue to be in the area throughout the upcoming days, canvassing for witnesses and for residential CCTV footage.”

IHIT is asking anyone who was driving in the area between noon and 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, with dash camera video, or anyone with information to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email.
