Nanaimo RCMP are calling it a “senseless act of vandalism.”
They say someone threw a rock through a 100-year-old stained glass window at Saint Andrew’s United Church on Fitzwilliam St, causing an estimated $1,500 in damage.
Church employees noticed last Friday morning. They found a five-pound patio stone lying on the floor inside the church. The stone caused a gaping 2ft by 2ft hole and shattered several panes within a much larger stained window.
“This senseless act of vandalism will cost the church thousands of dollars,” says Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP. “The problem they are faced with now is to match the broken pane with the existing stained glass.”
