A serious crash involving three cars and a cyclist that shut down a busy southeast road early Monday morning is being investigated by the Calgary Police Service traffic section.
On Oct. 16, at 6:30 a.m., the collision happened at the intersection of Canyon Meadows Drive and Parkland Boulevard Southeast.
Police say at the time, a Ford Focus driven by a 29-year-old woman was travelling west on Canyon Meadows Drive approaching Parkland Boulevard.
At the same time, a Toyota Landcruiser driven by a 26-year-old man was travelling east on Canyon Meadows Drive, toward Parkland Boulevard.
Additionally, a Subaru Crosstrek driven by a 43-year-old man was travelling north on Parkland Boulevard toward Canyon Meadows Drive. Next to the Subaru, a 63-year-old man was cycling in the same direction.
According to police, the Toyota entered the intersection while the Ford was turning left, infringing into the path of the Toyota, and these two vehicles collided. It is believed the driver of the Toyota did not stop at a red light.
The Toyota swerved and struck the cyclist and the Subaru. The cyclist had serious injuries and the driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries. The drivers and passengers in the other vehicles involved were not hurt.
Police say speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision. The Ford turning into the path of the Toyota and the Toyota failing to stop at a red light are believed to be contributing factors.
