Theatre Calgary – Ragtime: A Concert Performance - image

For the first time, three of Calgary’s largest arts organizations – Arts Commons, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Theatre Calgary – are joining forces for a special musical presentation with an important message for the world. Ragtime: A Concert Performance will celebrate the power of music to explore the human spirit at the core of the most pressing social issues today, in the world premiere of a new adaptation by the acclaimed Boston Pops orchestra of this Tony Award-winning musical.

Ragtime follows three vastly different families in search of the American Dream in New York at the turn of the century: African Americans in Harlem, Eastern European immigrants in the Lower East Side, and upper-class Whites in New Rochelle come across historical figures like stage magician Harry Houdini, car tycoon Henry Ford, activist Booker T. Washington, and anarchist Emma Goldman as they navigate racism, class struggle, privilege, and police brutality.

Don’t miss this limited engagement of a one-of-a-kind concert directed by Theatre Calgary Artistic Director Stafford Arima and featuring the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Three performances only:

June 10 @ 7:30PM
June 11 @ 2:00PM
June 11 @ 7:30PM
