Speaker: Dr. Donald McAlpine White-nose syndrome is a fungal disease that has devastated eastern North American bat populations. The disease is gradually working its way west (it’s made it to California and Washington, but not BC- yet). Intensive studies in New Brunswick may have lessons for those interested in the conservation of BC bat populations. Dr. Donald F. McAlpine, is Curator of Zoology and Head of the Department of Natural History at the New Brunswick Museum (Saint John NB), where he has spent the past 39 years investigating the biodiversity of Atlantic Canada (including bats and white-nose syndrome). Mainly, he collects dead things for the Museum.
