In 1975, the Penthouse Nightclub was targeted by the Vancouver Police Department in a notorious investigation that not only deployed undercover police inside the club, but secretly took photographs of those coming in and out of the legendary nightspot. In a subsequent trial which targeted the Filippone family, the owners of the club, the surveillance photographs entered into evidence were called by one police officer “a blackmailers dream”, with rumours swirling in the media that the who’s who of Vancouver society were captured on film with many prostitutes who used the club to meet their clientele. In the wake of the trial, the evidence was sealed and later disappeared from VPD archives, and lost for over 40 years. Until now… Join Aaron Chapman, bestselling author of “Liquor, Lust, and the Law: The Story of Vancouver’s Legendary Penthouse Nightclub” who will discuss the photos recent discovery, and present the photos – seen in public for the very first time and show some of who was captured in photographs by police surveillance, as well as suggest some startling conclusions about the investigation.
