RICHMOND, BC – March 16, 2026 – In the new series of paintings and mixed media works by Richmond-based artist Sofiya Mukhachova, titled Deep Outside, audiences are invited to navigate the delicate intersection of cosmic vastness and the intimate architecture of the human mind. Sofiya’s work is a profound meditation on the “possibility of the improbable”, which is a visual bridge between the scientific reality of the universe and the reality of our inner selves. Sofiya’s Deep Outside Series is not only an exploration of outer space, but a manifestation of what she calls the “cosmos of our minds.” Drawing inspiration from theoretical physics and the philosophy of Carlo Rovelli, Sofiya challenges our conventional understanding of time and existence. For her, a painting is more than a two-dimensional surface; it is rather a reflection of internal thought. The works in this series function as “intelligent particles” of consciousness in the form of shape and colour. By blending traditional painting with mixed media such as acrylic, air brush and lights, she captures the “messenger of information” that is light, transforming electromagnetic radiation into emotional resonance. Her canvases act as portals, allowing the energy of our feelings to overcome the barriers of the material world and fill the gallery space with a tangible presence. In Deep Outside, Sofiya reminds us that if the universe is truly infinite, then anything is possible. In the vacuum of nothingness, there is still thought and light inviting us to discover the whimsical and the infinite.
