Krista Hessey
National Online Correspondent - Enterprise & Investigative
Krista Hessey is a National Online Correspondent on Global News’ Enterprise and Investigative team.
Before this role, Krista produced and hosted segments of Global News’ weekly current affairs show, The New Reality. She previously worked for VICE News Canada creating short documentaries about art, culture, race, and LGBTQIA+ issues.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Krista reported on the exploitation of undocumented workers and their efforts to access life-saving vaccines. She reported on virus outbreaks at a Canada Post facility that left several workers dead and families searching for answers. That same year, she also led an investigation revealing hundreds of seasonal migrant workers were being barred from accessing fresh air during their two-week-long quarantines.
In 2021, Krista produced a short documentary for the “Clean Water, Broken Promises” investigation into a remote First Nation’s 25-year-long fight for clean drinking water. That series, which involved Global News’ investigative team and several other media organizations, was nominated for a Michener Award.
She has received two RTDNA Awards for her work on The New Reality. One of them focused on the Magpie River, Canada’s first ecosystem to be granted legal personhood rights; the other was a search for the identities of First Nations children in unmarked Manitoba graves.
Krista is based in Toronto.
