TORONTO – Black Friday is the shopping event of the year for Americans, but is it worth the trip for those of us north of the border?

Global News did a cost comparison with three main electronic items up for grabs this holiday season: a TV, a tablet and a camera.

We phoned a Toronto Best Buy for the Canadian price tags, and checked the U.S. Best Buy prices online, since their phone lines are closed until 3 a.m. Friday morning.

Here’s what we found:

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

3. Nikon Coolpix S9500 digital camera in red

So, the most savings seem to be in Buffalo, though you need to factor in the exchange rate, the time it takes to get down there, and the cost of a tank of gas plus a meal to keep you alert in the crowded malls. Since deals depend on the item you want to buy, it’s worth checking the prices online or trying to call stores in advance for particular products.

Happy shopping and see you Cyber Monday
