The B.C. Federation of Labour is stepping up its campaign against IKEA.
A few dozen union members staged a rally outside IKEA’s Coquitlam store today.
The federation is also preparing an awareness campaign to run through the Christmas shopping season province-wide.
More than 300 employees of the Swedish retailer have been locked out of the Richmond location since May, and the protesters say the company’s demands are unfair.
“IKEA is looking to introduce a wage structure that is based on sales goals and productivity measures that are completely controlled by the company, which would lead a co-worker maybe taking 20 plus years to get to a top-rate, which inherently unfair and unrealistic in our opinion,” says Anita Dawson with Teamsters Local 213.
