TORONTO – Sony has released a PlayStation app allowing users to turn their mobile devices into a second screen while gaming, ahead of the long-awaited launch of the PlayStation 4 console on Friday.
The app – released for Android and iOS users Wednesday – gives users the ability to use their phone or tablet to chat with friends during games, receive game alerts, and allows devices to be used as an on-screen keyboard.
A stand-out feature for users may prove to be the in-app second-screen features, which will allow for “greater challenges and control” when games allow it, according to the app’s description.
Users are also able to buy games through the app and to access PlayStation manuals and system guides.
Sony is concentrating on social features with the release of the PS4. The new version of its DualShock controller includes a “share” button that allows you to post game play footage and screenshots – the app will also embrace these features.
