OTTAWA – Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate remains the lowest in Canada.
The rate dropped 0.7 percentage points from September to October to sit at 3.6 per cent according to numbers released Friday by Statistics Canada.
Nationally, the unemployment rate was 6.9 per cent.
According to the Saskatchewan government, youth unemployment was at 6.3 per cent, the lowest in the country.
Saskatchewan’s two largest cities posted the lowest unemployment rates for major cities in Canada. Regina’s rate was 3.2 per cent while Saskatoon sat at 4.6 per cent.
During the same period, employment rose by 0.4 per cent to 557,800, with all gains in part-time work.
There were 1,500 less people working full-time in October then in September.
On a year-over-year basis, employment was up 3.1 per cent, the second only to Alberta for the highest growth rate among the provinces.
