Ask Compass: Translink launches new website for users to ask them questions

Translink has rolled out a new website called ‘Ask Compass’.

The goal is to answer any questions transit users may have about the Compass Card, which is set to be rolled out in stages, beginning this December.

Mike Madill, the vice president of Translink, says the website was rolled out on Monday. He spoke with Jill Krop on Unfiltered and says so far there are more than 80 questions on the site.

“So far, so good,” he says.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

An example of a question on the site:

“Will I get charged again if I hop on to a bus within 90 minutes of my last use?”

Translink answered: “No! Just like now, you’ll be able to transfer without being charged extra, as long as you tap in for the last time within 90 minutes of your first tap in.”

A lot of the questions centre around zone changes and charges.

“With any fare structure, there’s going to be issues,” says Madill. “Someone’s going to think it’s unfair.”

A few questions on the site revolve around whether there will be an app for the Compass Card so that users do not have to use a physical card.

“That’s something that we’ve built the system to be able to accommodate,” says Madill. “But that will be a future thing. We want to make sure we get the card ready and that everybody knows how to use it.”
