Live Banff election results – 2013

Karen Sorensen has been re-elected to a second term as mayor of Banff.

She defeated challengers Jim Abelseth and Cynthia Anderson, taking over 50 per cent of the vote. Abelseth, who came in second place, received 37.8 per cent and Anderson received 11.3 per cent.

Sorensen has been on council since 2004 and was acclaimed as mayor in 2010.

Voters in Banff also elected a new six-member city council.

The new faces on council are Corrie DiManno and Ted Christensen.

Returning councillors include Stavros Karlos, who was elected to his third term. In his previous term, he was a member of the Assessment Review Board, the Development Appeal Board and the Community Advisory Committee. He and his family own and operate the Balkan the Greek restaurant in Banff.

Chip (Cheryl) Olver was also re-elected for her seventh term on council. She has been in office since March 1994. In her last term, she was appointed to the Assessment Review Board, the Bow Corridor Ecosystem Advisory Group, the Rocky Mountains Housing Cooperative, and other positions.

Councillors Brian Standish and Grant Canning were both elected to their second terms.
