KINGSTON, Ont. – Police in Kingston, Ont., say they’ve made three arrests in what investigators believe was a hate-based attack on six people last Sunday.
Detectives say a 20-year-old Kingston man arrested Thursday afternoon will be formally charged Friday with assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.
Kenneth Murphy, 19, and Clayton Lee, 18, were arrested on Wednesday and remain in custody on charges of assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.
Police say investigators are working to identify, arrest and charge a fourth suspect.
Investigators say six people – described by police as visible minorities – were accosted by four white men who yelled racial slurs and hate-based profanities just before they attacked the group.
One victim was struck with a weapon and received minor injuries before the group “fled in fear” and called police.
Police say one of the victims had the opportunity to take a photograph with his cellphone during the attack that shows one of the suspects.
