Sask. schools in hold and secure mode after possible sighting of sex offender

ROSETOWN, Sask. – Schools in western Saskatchewan are on a hold and secure mode after a possible sighting of a high-risk sex offender’s vehicle.

RCMP say there has been a possible sighting of Michael Sean Stanley in Rosetown, about 110 kilometres west of Saskatoon, around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

This follows two unconfirmed reports the truck of Michael Sean Stanley was spotted in Kindersley just around 1 p.m.

There is also an unconfirmed report he was seen on foot in the Kindersley area just before 1 p.m.

Stanley is a repeat high-risk sex offender known to take children from playgrounds.

He cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet in Lloydminster on Tuesday after driving there from Edmonton.

“The RCMP have advised that all three Kindersley schools, Rossville School in Coleville, Eston Composite School, Westcliffe Composite School in Marengo, Eaton School in Eatonia and Northwest Central School in Plenty go into lockdown procedures,” said Sun West School Division spokeswoman Roxan Foursha.

“RCMP have advised that we will be on alert like this for at least the next 24 hours unless that person is apprehended. They’ll let us know.”

Parents have been advised to pick up their children at the end of the school day.

Staff have been asked to send children home with their own parents and not with the parent of another child.

Stanley may be driving a purple 1996 Chevrolet Trail Blazer with Alberta licence plate BHD 1954.

Police are advising the public not to approach Stanley, as he has a violent disposition.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
