Some Telus customers in B.C. and Alberta lost the use of their landline and wireless services for a few hours on Wednesday night.

Shawn Hall, social and media relations director with Telus, said customers in B.C. and Alberta were affected from about 10:30 p.m. to about 1 a.m. Thursday morning.

“It was intermittent and sporadic,” said Hall, which is why at this time he is not able to provide the number of people who were affected.

Telus is still investigating the cause of the outage, but Hall said it was a “tech issue.”

“We know how important phone service is and we did everything we could to get it back as quickly as possible,” he said.

Some non-emergency lines within emergency services were affected, but Hall said 911 calls were not affected as far as he knows at this time.

However, the call might not have gone through if the phone line was down.

“Your call to 911 might not have gone through because your phone line was affected,” confirmed Hall.

Telus did work with E-Comm and other services to implement a back-up plan during the outage.

The outage is now under investigation.
