Coquitlam RCMP has now released video surveillance footage from near the scene of a fatal hit and run that happened on Tuesday, September 10.
A 16-year-old girl was hit in a crosswalk at the corner of Pitt River Road and Mary Hill Road in Port Coquitlam. She died in hospital early Wednesday morning.
Investigators now want to speak to the man seen in the surveillance video as they believe he could have important information about the moments before and after the collision.
The video is hard to see, but on the far left side of the screen, a black truck pulls up and stops. A man gets out, goes around the front of the truck, then runs back down the hill. Over a minute later the man can be seen coming back, getting into the truck and then driving away. Police think he will help answer some of the questions they have. They are not calling him a suspect.
There are many cars and a bus in the area at the time, but police also want to talk to the driver of a silver truck, that witnesses report was in the immediate vicinity of the collision. Police say the truck is not a suspect vehicle. They do not have a description of the driver.
Police also want to talk to the man who administered first aid to the victim immediately after the collision.

“We have received a lot of information from the public, said Inspector Paulette Freill. “We are grateful for that support and we are following up on every bit of information that comes in. Today we are asking for the public’s help identifying the man in this video and two other people who were at the scene so our team can speak to them about what they saw.”
On Wednesday, the Port Coquitlam mayor made a public appeal for the driver to come forward.
“On behalf of the victim, her family and friends and everyone who has been touched by this tragedy, I am asking these three individuals, as well as anyone else with information about the collision, to contact us immediately,” said Freill. “And I have a message for the driver who left the scene. We need to speak to you and it is not too late to do the right thing. Finally, on behalf of our investigators I want to thank everyone who has called in with information. We would not be able to do our jobs without you.”
