First column of the Evergreen Line installed

The first column of the Evergreen Line has been installed, and construction is on schedule for completion in 2016.

The column has been erected at the corner of Como Lake Avenue and Clarke Road in Coquitlam.

Once complete, the 11 kilometre rapid transit line will connect Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam.

The Evergreen Line will connect directly into the existing Millennium Line at Lougheed Town Centre.

The line is expected to carry up to 70,000 people daily by 2021.

Construction of additional columns will continue in Coquitlam throughout the summer and fall, moving south on North Road towards the Lougheed Town Centre station.

Next year, construction will start in Coquitlam at the Coquitlam Central Station and move north to the Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station.

In Port Moody, construction will start this summer east of Barnet Hwy. and this fall, construction on the guideway will start at Inlet Centre Station.

The $1.43 billion project is a partnership between the federal government, provincial government and Translink.
