Evergreen Line construction plans, station names announced

Major construction plans and station names for the Evergreen Line rapid transit project were announced Saturday morning.

The new $1.43 billion, 11-kilometre line will link neighbourhoods in Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam and will be fully integrated into the existing system, the B.C. government announced.

“Our government is delivering on our commitment to create 8,000 jobs, boost development opportunities, and transportation options for families and communities,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Mary Polak.

The government, along with TransLink outlined the construction schedule for the next 12 months.

Six new stations will be built and two existing stations will be upgraded.

The new stops along the line will be called Lougheed Town Centre, Burquitlam, Moody Centre, Inlet Centre, Coquitlam Central, Lincoln and Lafarge Lake-Douglas stations.

Service is planned to begin in 2016.

Once the Evergreen Line is completed, Metro Vancouver’s SkyTrain system will become the longest rapid transit system in Canada.
