Carnarvon, Ont. tornado confirmed to be weak tornado

TORONTO – Following an investigation into storms that tore across some areas of Southern Ontario on Wednesday, Environment Canada has confirmed that the damage in Carnarvon, north of Minden, was caused by a tornado that rated EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita scale.

The Enhanced Fujita scale ranges from EF-0 to EF-5 and is used to determine wind speed of a tornado, based on damage sustained during the event. EF-0 tornadoes have wind speeds of between 90 and 130 km/h.

The Carnarvon tornado track was 2.25 km long.

On Thursday, Enviornment Canada confirmed the ratings of two other tornadoes from Wednesday’s storms, one in Orillia and the other in Arthur. Both tornadoes were also rated as EF-0.

Fortunately, no one was injured in Wednesday’s tornadoes and no major damage was reported.
