TORONTO – Police officers in York region are investigating the death of a toddler at an unlicensed daycare in Vaughan.
The two-year-old child was found dead in the Vaughan house on Monday evening and was pronounced dead by the coroner.
It’s currently unclear what led to the child’s death. Homicide officers are working in conjunction with the coroner’s office as per protocol whenever a child dies.
York Region Public Health Services spokeswoman Colleen Gareau said health investigators identified seven health and safety infractions at the daycare.
Some of those infractions included failing to implement infection prevention, failing to provide a hand-wash basin and unsafe food conditions.
She also said the daycare was shut down.
Toronto Public Health is also investigating because the toddler was from Toronto.
The two-storey daycare is located on Yellowood Circle in Vaughan near Highway 407 and Dufferin Street.
