Duclos, who is 56, had been serving a life sentence since 1992 for a first-degree murder committed the previous year.

He killed 33-year-old Danielle Andre and left her body outside a Laval warehouse. Duclos admitted that Andre had been beaten and shot through the heart because she had refused to have sex with him.

It was later revealed that Laval police failed to act after an informant told officers that Duclos had murdered Andre.
