HALIFAX – A 38-year-old man charged in a brutal attack on a Halifax area gas station clerk six years ago has been declared a dangerous offender.
Michael Derrick Robicheau was sentenced today in Dartmouth provincial court on charges of attempted murder, sexual assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and robbery.
The defence did not contest the Crown’s application to have Robicheau designated a dangerous offender and imprisoned indefinitely.
The August 2007 attack at the Portland Street Ultramar happened 13 days after Robicheau was released from prison and placed at a Halifax halfway house.
He sexually assaulted the 44-year-old clerk and slit her throat before fleeing with a carton of cigarettes.
Police found him hiding in tall grass near the gas station and he told officers he committed the crime so he would get sent back to prison.
