He had gone into the river at the train bridge and then tried to swim to shore. It only took a short period of time for him to travel one kilometre downstream where he was grabbed by emergency services and helped to shore.

Police are investigating reports that he jumped off the train bridge and charges are pending.

Fire officials say everyone needs to stay off the river and city officials are warning rescue attempts may not be possible due to the strong current.
