Evans Maiko wins 35th Manitoba Marathon

WINNIPEG — Evans Maiko of Kenya has won the Manitoba Marathon with a time of 2:28:17.

This not only marks Maiko’s first victory, but also his first marathon.

Only seconds later, Brian Walker of Winnipeg nabbed a second-place finish with 2:28:37.

Gina Tranquada was the first female finisher of the 42-kilometre race, coming in at 3:02:03.

Tranquada, who won the Manitoba Marathon two years ago, said “I was thinking of my Dad today to keep me going.”

There were a total of 809 runners participating in the marathon.

Winnipeg’s Corey Gallagher was victorious in the Half Marathon for the second year in a row. He glided past the finish line in 1:10:50.

The first female finisher of the Half Marathon was Darolyn Walker with 1:26:31.

In addition to the full marathon and half marathon, there was a 10-kilometre run and a marathon relay.
