VERNON, BC — A Vernon RCMP officer has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Police say they first became aware of the allegation in early May of this year and launched an immediate investigation.

The constable has been identified as Ryan Hampton.

RCMP say Hampton has been suspended from duty.

They say a Notice of Intention has been launched to have Hampton suspended without pay.

“This alleged behavior is absolutely deplorable and is being dealt with swiftly, says Chief Superintendent Mike Sekela, District Commander for the Southeast District. Cst. Hampton will now have to answer to the courts and later to a formal disciplinary hearing where the Commanding Officer will be seeking his dismissal.”
