Governor General honours Langley Little League team

It’s not every day Governor General David Johnston visits the township of Langley, but today the Langley Little Leaguers were honoured with the prestigious Caring Canadian Award. The award recognizes individuals who volunteer their time to help others, and the baseball team did just that after their opponents in the 2011 Little League World Series were denied entry to the U.S. because of visa issues.

When the Canadian team from Langley caught wind of Uganda’s misfortune, the boys stepped up to the plate and went to Africa to play the Ugandan team instead. The Langley team lost that match-up, but they pulled out a big win by improving the lives of the African players and today the team was awarded for its efforts.
