MONTREAL – Police are searching for a convicted killer who escaped custody during a hospital visit.
Jean Pierre Duclos slipped away from police while being escorted to a hospital in Verdun for an unspecified medical condition.
He is five-foot-seven, about 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a white short sleeved shirt, blue jeans and a green coat.
Duclos, who is 56, has been serving a life sentence since 1992 for a first-degree murder committed the previous year.
He killed 33-year-old Danielle Andre and left her body outside a Laval warehouse. Duclos admitted that Andre had been beaten and shot through the heart because she had refused to have sex with him.
It was later revealed that Laval police failed to act after an informant told officers that Duclos had murdered Andre.
Several officers were charged and Andre’s family tried to take the police department to court for its mishandling of the case.
Duclos should not be approached.
