Popular pathway blocked off for dam maintenance

CALGARY- Work is under way on a popular pathway to make sure the Glenmore Dam is ready for flood season.

The pathway north of the Glenmore Reservoir near 50 Ave. S.W. has been blocked off so crews can work on the 80-year-old dam, to ensure the concrete is holding up.

“We are doing the core sampling again,” explains dam safety engineer Steven Dold. “We are aware some concrete repair is required, the sampling will tell us to what extent and we will use that information to come up with a work plan.”

The work is part of a regular maintenance schedule for the dam, which is one of the heaviest in North America.

The pathway could reopen as early as this weekend.
