Ice jam warning issued for North Saskatchewan River

Water Security Agency issues ice jam warning for North Saskatchewan River from Borden Bridge to Prince Albert. Vytai Brannan / Global News

SASKATOON – The Water Security Agency has issued an ice jam warning for the North Saskatchewan River.

The warning extends from the Borden Bridge to Prince Albert.

The agency says the possibility exists for ice jams to form in that stretch of the river which would create a situation for more serious ice jams to form on the river upstream from Prince Albert.

Ice jams can cause rapid rises in water levels, leading to the potential for serious and significant flooding.

WSA is warning people to take precautions if an ice jam develops and to not venture onto the ice in the vicinity of a jam.
