From our cameras to your screen

When I'm out in the field working on a story, it's always funny to see people's reactions when I tell them it won't take us long to get what we shot on the air.

"So when will this be on the news?"
"Tonight."
"Really? That fast?"

When you see a CHBC News reporter and cameraman somewhere, you have to remember we're working on a deadline so this is generally what will happen:

– they will do the necessary interviews
– the cameraman will then take video of the event, the location, anything that will visually tell the story
– they will come back to the station where the reporter will transcribe the interview and start piecing it together to tell what is happening
– the cameraman will then edit together selected portions of the interview with the reporter's voice and fill in the gaps with video
– you will then see it on your screen (or online)

All this is generally done within a 2 to 3 hour time span.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

to here! Someone (who is not normally myself) sitting on our set ready to present that story to you in the comforts of your living room…

Yes, our set is actually that green.
