CALGARY- One man is in custody and police are searching for another, following a brazen jewelry heist in a Calgary mall.
Around 4 a.m. on November 5, police responded to Market Mall after a number of alarms went off. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle had crashed through the main north entrance to the building, causing $150,000 worth of damage to the structure.
The thieves had broken into Jewels by Maxime’s, stealing a number of high-end watches with a value of $139,000.
A tip from the public led police to a white Dodge Journey, located in the community of Varsity, and police believed two people were involved in the heist.
Last week, police arrested 27-year-old Samual Jacob Chapman in connection with the case, who was already in custody in Coquitlam, B.C. on an unrelated matter. He has since been charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property.
Police are still searching for the second suspect.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
