The union representing operating and maintenance engineers at UBC has served 72-hour strike notice on the university.

Operating Engineers Local 882  are trying to get a new deal hammered out.

The union says it doesn’t want to disrupt operations but it will if it has to, to make a deal happen.

There are no plans to talk.

The union says essential services would be maintained in the event of any job action.

Members voted in favour of a strike last week.
