Quebec driver caught going 180 km/h in 100 km/h zone

A 29-year-old Quebec driver learned an expensive lesson Saturday.

He was intercepted by police going 180 kilometres per hour in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 175 South in Stoneham, north of Quebec City.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers slapped him with a $1, 521 fine and 18 demerit points.

His permit was also suspended for seven days.

SQ spokesperson Christine Couloumbe said the man’s vehicle was not impounded because another person with a valid driver’s licence left with it.
