About 40 people came together for a meeting in Falmouth, N.S. on Wednesday evening – three days after a home in their community was ruined by a possible sink hole.

The community meeting was organized by Debby Rose, a real estate agent who lives next to the home owned by Chris and Heather Strickey that sunk into the ground after a large hole opened beneath it on Sunday.

Rose says that she found out her neighbourhood was built on an area mapped by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources as a high risk for naturally occurring sink holes by watching Global News this week. Since then, she has been looking for answers about the incident and whether or not it’s an isolated incident.

Rose says the meeting went very well and that it was nice for everyone who attended to realize they were all on the same page. She says they feel stronger knowing that as a group, they have each others back.

Residents are now waiting to see what is in the report before planning another community meeting and deciding what steps they will take next.

CAO Cathie Osborne told Global News on Thursday that she has not been advised of any change in the structure or the property at this time.

“The structure is stable and does not pose an immediate risk to public safety which is my primary concern,” she said in an email.
