Cher criticizes Donald Trump over DACA decision

Donald Trump’s decision to shut down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is being met with anger and disbelief. The program, instituted during the Obama administration, allows undocumented immigrants who entered the country as children to be eligible for work permits and get them on track toward U.S. citizenship.

As critics of the U.S. president’s decision have noted, ending the program will cause major disruption to the lives of some 800,000 “Dreamers” who grew up in the U.S., who will see the lives they know effectively end when they’re deported to the nations of their birth — which, in many cases, they haven’t set foot in since they were small children.

Among the many celebrities to be appalled by Trump’s latest move is Cher, with the iconic singer taking to Twitter to lash out at Trump, blasting him as a “complete coward” and offering to provide sanctuary for Dreamers in her Los Angeles home.

In fact, Cher is also encouraging others to do the same, tweeting: “Those Who Can Must Take a DREAMER In2 Their Home & Protect Them!!”

In a subsequent tweet, Cher points out that America has been the Dreamers’ only home, asking: “How can we throw them into the wilderness?”

Meanwhile, Cher has been responding to those who’ve been critical of her tweets, firing back at one Twitter user by declaring that she’s dead serious, pointing out that her guest house “has been FULL with down on luck [friends] since I built it,” adding that a friend of her mother’s lives there now after her house burnt down.
