Cape Breton man faces numerous charges after barricading himself in residence

A 29-year-old Donkin, N.S., male has been arrested and charged after barricading himself in a home for close to an hour on Tuesday.

Cape Breton police say they were on foot patrol on Brookside Street in Glace Bay and recognized the man as someone wanted on an outstanding warrant.

When they attempted to arrest the man, he ran into a residence on the street refusing to come out. He also claimed he had a gun.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., police were able to negotiate with the man to leave the residence and come into police custody.

On Wednesday, Kevin Richard Walton was charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, flight from police, failure to attend court and a breach.

He was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre overnight. He is set to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on Wednesday.
