The brother of a man who survived a shooting near Flemingdon Park last month is pleading with anyone who might have information about the case to come forward.

Toronto police responded to the shooting just before 10 p.m. on April 13 in the area of Grenoble Drive and Vendome Place. Police said the victim had been in the area to visit a friend and had experienced car trouble when he was shot multiple times.

“My family and I are glad that Samuel is alive,” David Taylor, brother of Samuel Taylor, said during a police press conference Friday.

“But personally, what keeps me up at night, what keeps all of us up at night, is the fact that that these men are still at large and their guns can be used on anyone they choose.”

Toronto police released security camera footage Friday in hopes of identifying the two suspects.

The video shows two vehicles, white and dark-coloured, drive by the area where Taylor had been working on his car with the help of a cab driver.

Police said two men believed to be the occupants of the vehicles then approached the victim and fired multiple shots at him.

“After being rushed to a hospital in life-threatening condition he underwent numerous life-saving surgeries and we are glad to say he’s alive and recovering well,” Taylor said.

Police said following the shooting, the suspects fled in the two vehicles that were parked close by.

Det.-Sgt. Jim Gotell said there’s no evidence to suggest the victim was known to the suspects and the shooting could have been a case of mistaken identity.

“We have no reason to believe Mr. Taylor was targeted for anything he had done or anything like that,” Gotell said.

Police said it’s the fourth shooting in the last five months in the same neighbourhood.

“The widespread violence is causing irreparable damage and it’s tearing families apart,” Taylor said, urging residents to help Toronto police get illegal guns off the streets.

Anyone who may recognize the vehicles or the suspects is asked to reach out to police or contact Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
