A 12-year-old Hamilton boy with a toy gun and wooden sword, who was waiting to record a school project with a friend in a park, found himself surrounded by police with guns and Tasers drawn.
Hamilton police said a witness reported a tall teenager with a gun and a knife. The boy’s particularly tall for his age, standing at six feet tall.
The boy dropped his ‘weapons’ when confronted by police. The boy wasn’t harmed by police, but his parents are upset, suggesting it could have ended tragically if their son reacted differently.
The boy’s uncle, David, told AM640’s The Morning Show that his nephew was “traumatized” and in “really bad shape” following the situation.
David told Matt and Supriya he wished the police handled the incident better, claiming they did not explain to the boy why he was confronted.
Do you understand why the family’s upset? Were police just doing their job and responding to a call?
