KELOWNA, B.C. – As daytime temperatures are expected to be -8°C in the central and north Okanagan area Wednesday, a planned day-long power outage on Westside Road has been canceled by BC Hydro.

The Regional District of the Central Okanagan (RDCO) posted notice of the last minute cancellation on its website Tuesday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The outage would have affected residents in more than 1,300 homes and business on the northwest side of Okanagan Lake from La Casa north through Fintry, Killiney Beach, Westshore Estates to the Valley of the Sun.

RDCO area director Wayne Carson said the weather was deemed to cold for an all-day power outage.

BC Hydro has not chosen a new date for the 12-hour upgrade work planned for Dec. 7.

Residents of the area along Westside Road that were originally part of the planned outage are encouraged to tell neighbours the power will stay on Wednesday.
