Vancouver Airport workers issued a 72-hour strike notice on Wednesday, meaning flights out of YVR could be impacted this weekend.
The dispute is between Swissport Canada and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), who manage the airport’s baggage services and clean the aircraft.
A tentative agreement was reached earlier this month, but the union voted against it and in favour of a strike.
YVR says the two sides have re-entered negotiations and they are hopeful the matter will be resolved quickly.
There is currently no impact on operations at YVR and the airport says contingency plans are being put in place if a strike does happen.
The following airlines could be affected if the workers go on strike:
- Westjet
- Cathay Pacific
- China Eastern
- China Airlines
- China Southern
- Air China
- Japan Airlines
- Ana Airlines
- Alaska Air
- Korean Airlines
- Air France
- British Airways
- Lufthansa
- KLM
- Quantas
- Air New Zealand
- Philippine Airlines
- Air Transat
- Eva Airlines
Swissport does not provide baggage handling for the following airlines:
- Aeromexico
- Air Canada
- Air Canada Rouge
- Air North
- American Airlines
- Central Mountain Air
- Delta Airlines
- Swift Air
- United Airlines
YVR recommends passengers check the status of their flight with their airlines and visit yvr.ca or follow @yvrairport on Twitter for the latest updates.
